PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Who I have worked for

I have worked in many mental health care settings over the past fifteen years including the NHS.  Some of the places I have worked include the Maudsley, The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, The Brit School, Mind, Care Grow Live, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham College Counselling service. In my last NHS post, I worked in London, Greenwich ADAPT team (Anxiety, Depression, Affective Disorders, Personality Disorders and Trauma) from 2019 until 2024 before deciding to focus on my private practice.

A good half of every treatment that probes at all deeply consists in the doctor’s examining himself…it is his own hurt that gives a measure of his power to heal. This, and nothing else, is the meaning of the Greek myth of the wounded physician”.

My own journey

Part of the requirements to become a qualified Counselling Psychologist involves engaging in our own personal therapy with another, experienced Counselling Psychologist.  In total, I have had more than eighty hours of one to one therapy while in training as a Counselling Psychologist. This experience encouraged me to become more curious, open and authentic in relation to my own thoughts and feelings and it also gave me an insight into you, the client’s, experience of receiving therapy.

I know firsthand what it is like to sit on the other side of the therapy couch and talk to a stranger about my problems, fears and pain.  I know what it is like to experience the inner conflict of wanting to have something resolved and to feel free from it, but also wanting to bury those feelings and run away from them.

I know what it is like to be vulnerable, delve into the past and to experience those emotions in all of their intensity. But perhaps most importantly, I also know what it is like to come through the other side and to have had a transformative therapeutic experience where the future looks and feels brighter.  I want you to know that I’m here to help you with whatever you are struggling with and to help you through the transformative process of therapy.

Being a client and on the receiving end of therapy throughout training shaped the experience I wanted to give my client. I understand the value of being truly heard and understood without judgment.
